1. Who we are
These terms apply to purchases from Bold Types. We are an independent UK greeting card business and remain the seller even where specialist providers print, dispatch, process payments or send email on our behalf.
2. The contract
By submitting an order you offer to buy the products shown at checkout. An order is accepted when payment is captured and an order confirmation is issued. Printed-card production and eCard supply may begin immediately after payment.
3. Products and previews
The editor and final preview are provided so you can check the order before payment. A screen preview is a guide to the finished printed appearance. Phones, tablets and monitors use different brightness, colour profiles, display technologies and user settings, while printed ink and paper reflect light rather than emit it. Reasonable, non-material differences in colour, tone or brightness between the screen preview and the printed card are therefore not treated as a fault or a change-of-mind return reason. This does not affect your statutory rights if the finished product is faulty, damaged, materially different from the approved design or otherwise not as described.
4. Your responsibility for personalisation
Check spelling, names, punctuation, dates, sign-offs, recipient details, wording and placement before payment. Where available, also check photos, emoji, stickers and other customer-added content. By approving the final preview and paying, you confirm that the customer-entered details shown are correct. A name, date, spelling or other personalisation mistake that is printed exactly as entered and approved by you is your responsibility and is not a fault or a reason for a refund or free reprint. We do not routinely proofread, rewrite or reposition customer content after purchase. If Bold Types supplies something materially different from the approved artwork, your statutory rights are unaffected. If you are unsure, use the blank-inside purchase route where available.
5. eCards
eCards are digital content supplied through a private hosted page for 7 days from purchase. Bold Types does not send an eCard to the recipient. After checkout, the buyer receives the private link on the order confirmation page and in the buyer's email receipt, then chooses when and how to share it by WhatsApp, email, multimedia SMS, copy link or another messaging service.
The buyer is responsible for sending the private link to the intended recipient while it remains live. Any messaging, data, SMS, MMS or mobile operator charges depend on the service the buyer chooses and are not charged, controlled or reimbursed by Bold Types. Where another person or organisation pays the buyer's airtime or mobile bill, the buyer should obtain their permission before using a chargeable service. Before payment, an eCard buyer is asked to expressly request immediate digital supply and acknowledge that the 14-day change-of-mind cancellation right ends once supply begins.
After digital supply begins, an eCard is not refundable merely because the buyer changes their mind, later changes the message, sends the link to the wrong person, does not send it before expiry or no longer needs the card. This does not affect rights where digital content is faulty or not as described.
6. Personalised printed cards and customer artwork
The statutory change-of-mind cancellation right does not apply to goods made to the customer’s specification or clearly personalised. Personalised cards therefore cannot be returned for a change of mind or for customer-approved spelling, detail, content or placement choices. Contact us immediately if you spot a problem after ordering; we may try to help before production begins, but changes cannot be guaranteed.
By uploading artwork, photographs or text, the customer confirms that they own the material or have permission to reproduce it. Customers must not upload copyright-infringing, unlawful, defamatory, hateful, threatening, sexually exploitative or otherwise seriously offensive material. We may refuse or cancel production where supplied content appears to breach another person’s rights, the law, or reasonable print-provider content standards.
Where an order is refused because the customer supplied prohibited material or did not have the necessary rights, reimbursement is not due for work, payment-processing or production costs already incurred. Nothing in these terms removes statutory rights or prevents a refund where Bold Types is legally required to provide one.
7. Blank printed cards
A card ordered through the blank-inside route without customer personalisation can be cancelled under the distance-selling change-of-mind rules. You must tell us within 14 days after receipt, then return the authorised goods within the following 14 days. Contact us before posting so we can issue a return code. Change-of-mind return postage is paid by the customer. See the Delivery and Returns Policy for the full process.
8. Prices, payment and delivery
Prices are in pounds sterling and the amount shown at checkout is the amount used for payment. Payment is processed by PayPal. Standard printed cards are £3.49 + P&P unless a clearly marked lower sale price applies. Cards that require customer personalisation on the front, including photo cards and personalised baby name/date cards, are £3.69 + P&P. P&P means postage and packing.
For an order containing one or two printed cards, P&P is £1.20 for one printed card or £2.20 for two printed cards sent together. When an order contains three or more printed cards sent together to one UK address, P&P is FREE. Where two or more printed cards are sent together, a blank envelope is included for each printed card.
When an order contains three or more printed greeting cards (including full-page photo, photo templates and front-personalised cards), each printed card is reduced to £3.33 if its individual price is higher. Existing £2.99 sale cards remain £2.99. This multibuy offer also provides free UK P&P when the cards are sent together to one UK address. eCards and clothing are not qualifying printed cards. Card offers and valid discount codes are applied where eligible. The basket and checkout show the final price before payment. Any specific discount-code terms shown when a code is issued also apply.
Discount codes and browsing sessions
Voucher codes and QR promotional offers are not guaranteed to carry over when you refresh or reload a page, close or reopen the browser tab, switch to another tab or device, or return to the website later. Some offers, including our QR discounts, are deliberately cleared when a page is reloaded. If your discount is no longer shown, follow the eligible QR link again or re-enter the valid promotional code in your basket before paying. Adding items to your basket does not reserve a promotional price. Please check that the discount is shown in your basket and in the final checkout total before placing your order. All offers remain subject to their advertised dates, eligibility and redemption limits. If you encounter a technical problem, please contact our support team before completing payment. Your statutory consumer rights are unaffected.
Customer-uploaded personalised cards
Cards created through Upload your own card are made from artwork supplied by the customer. Their individual price is £3.69 plus P&P for one or two cards and they qualify for the £3.33 each three-or-more printed-card offer. Because these cards are made to the customer’s specifications, the normal change-of-mind cancellation right does not apply once production has begun. This does not affect statutory rights where goods are faulty or not as described.
Pricing history
For transparency, Bold Types keeps a record of previous advertised card prices. Cards carrying product numbers CARD001–CARD599 that were listed for sale between 1 September 2026 and 4 October 2026 were advertised at £4.99 per card. This historical record does not change the current price shown on a product page or at checkout.
Estimated delivery dates
Printed cards are made to order. Our standard customer estimate is five working days from the order date for printing and standard UK delivery. We show an estimated delivery date in the basket, checkout, order confirmation and private order page.
The estimated date is a guide, not a promise or guaranteed delivery date. Weekends do not count as working days. Royal Mail and other postal delivery timings can vary after dispatch. Bold Types does not control the postal network, but we remain your point of contact for the order and your statutory consumer rights are unaffected.
T-shirt sizing
Where a T-shirt is offered as S/M, Bold Types supplies the manufacturer's Medium garment. This is stated on the product page and in the basket before payment. Other available options are supplied as the labelled manufacturer size.
Advertising QR discounts (5%, 10%, 15% or 20%)
Selected Bold Types advertising short links activate a promotional discount. The discount percentage selected for a campaign (5%, 10%, 15% or 20%) reduces eligible printed greeting-card prices after any automatic three-card or sale price, and eligible digital eCard prices. The percentage discount is calculated in whole pennies, always rounded down. For a 10% campaign: the £9.99 three-card bundle receives 99p off and costs £9.00 with free qualifying UK postage; a 99p eCard receives 9p off and costs 90p. The promotion also reduces applicable postage by the campaign percentage. At 10%: £1.20 becomes £1.08 for one printed card, and £2.20 becomes £1.98 for two. From three printed cards P&P is free, with no additional postage discount. No discount applies to clothing or independent Marketplace listings. This offer cannot be combined with other vouchers.
The printed-card QR discount is limited to one successful printed-card promotional purchase per checkout email address, checked against existing order records still retained for ordinary order processing. An eCard-only QR discount can be used repeatedly and does not exhaust the printed-card entitlement. Mixed orders including printed cards use the printed-card restriction. We do not build or keep a separate promotional email-tracking database for this restriction. As ordinary order records are not retained forever, checks are necessarily best effort and may no longer find older purchases after those records are deleted. We may refuse repeat claims that we can identify. A newly started but unpaid promotional printed-card checkout may temporarily prevent another attempt with the same email for up to 20 minutes.
Visiting a qualifying QR address (including manually or through a shared link), or entering its printed campaign code in the basket, activates the offer for the current browsing visit, or until the campaign ends or is withdrawn, whichever is sooner. Reloading or reopening the website without following the QR address again ends the promotional visit. The discount may then disappear from the basket or checkout, and you will need to scan the QR code again or re-enter the eligible campaign code if you still wish to claim it. See the discount code and browsing session terms above. Checkout rechecks eligibility before payment. Our short links cannot distinguish QR camera scans from ordinary link visits. We reserve the right to suspend the offer in cases of misuse. The previous emailed welcome 10% offer is currently withdrawn, and no offer stacks with a QR promotion.
Independent creators and the Bold Types Marketplace
The Bold Types Marketplace is being developed as an invitation-only showcase for independent creators. Its purpose is to give Bold Types and participating makers additional opportunities to introduce their work to new audiences and extend their individual and collective reach in a busy online market. Inclusion does not guarantee sales, availability, a particular position on the site or endorsement of every product.
Direct Etsy, Shopify and independent website links
Some maker products link to an Etsy listing, a Shopify-powered shop or the maker's own website. Following a link takes you away from Bold Types. The maker or merchant identified at the destination is ordinarily the seller, not Bold Types. The destination's checkout and relevant payment provider handle the payment process, and its applicable platform terms and the maker's own sale, delivery and returns terms apply. Etsy or Shopify may facilitate the transaction, but using those services does not automatically make Etsy or Shopify the seller. Check the identity of the seller, the full price, delivery, cancellation rights and relevant conditions before paying.
Enquiry basket, invoices and payment requests
Where a creator has not added a direct product link, you may select items, available sizes, colours and quantities in a separate maker enquiry basket, then provide your name, email and optional message. Submitting that form is an enquiry, not an order; it does not reserve stock, commit you to buy, confirm a final price, create a contract of sale or take any money. The indicative product prices on our Marketplace may not include delivery or any agreed personalisation.
We forward your enquiry details to the named creator so they can contact you directly. The creator, not Bold Types, is responsible for checking availability and explaining the complete price, delivery, payment method, cancellation and returns information, and their own identity and terms, before any sale is agreed. Any later purchase, invoice and payment link are arranged directly with that creator and their chosen payment provider. You should verify the recipient and destination of any payment request before paying. Bold Types does not collect, hold or process payment for these Marketplace items.
Bold Types provides a discovery and introduction service. We are not the seller or contractual counterparty for independent makers' items merely because we display them or forward an enquiry. Nothing in these terms excludes responsibilities that law may place on us, misrepresents the identity of a seller, or limits any statutory consumer rights. Marketplace links and enquiry functions may be unavailable while the service is in private testing. These Marketplace terms are separate from orders for Bold Types greeting cards, for which Bold Types remains the seller.
