Bold Types legal information
Terms of Sale
Updated 27 July 2026 · build 26.07.28.05
1. Who we are
These terms apply to purchases from Bold Types. We are an independent UK greeting card business and remain the seller even where specialist providers print, dispatch, process payments or send email on our behalf.
2. The contract
By submitting an order you offer to buy the products shown at checkout. An order is accepted when payment is captured and an order confirmation is issued. Printed-card production and eCard supply may begin immediately after payment.
3. Products and previews
The editor and final preview are provided so you can check the order before payment. Screen colours and very small production tolerances can differ from print. Differences that do not materially alter the approved design or wording are not faults.
4. Your responsibility for personalisation
Check spelling, names, punctuation, dates, sign-offs, recipient details, wording and placement before payment. Where available, also check photos, emoji, stickers and other customer-added content. We do not routinely proofread, rewrite or reposition customer content after purchase. If you are unsure, use the blank-inside purchase route.
5. eCards
eCards are digital content supplied through a private hosted page for 7 days from purchase. Bold Types does not send an eCard to the recipient. After checkout, the buyer receives the private link on the order confirmation page and in the buyer's email receipt, then chooses when and how to share it by WhatsApp, email, multimedia SMS, copy link or another messaging service.
The buyer is responsible for sending the private link to the intended recipient while it remains live. Any messaging, data, SMS, MMS or mobile operator charges depend on the service the buyer chooses and are not charged, controlled or reimbursed by Bold Types. Where another person or organisation pays the buyer's airtime or mobile bill, the buyer should obtain their permission before using a chargeable service. Before payment, an eCard buyer is asked to expressly request immediate digital supply and acknowledge that the 14-day change-of-mind cancellation right ends once supply begins.
After digital supply begins, an eCard is not refundable merely because the buyer changes their mind, later changes the message, sends the link to the wrong person, does not send it before expiry or no longer needs the card. This does not affect rights where digital content is faulty or not as described.
6. Personalised printed cards and customer artwork
The statutory change-of-mind cancellation right does not apply to goods made to the customer’s specification or clearly personalised. Personalised cards therefore cannot be returned for a change of mind or for customer-approved spelling, detail, content or placement choices. Contact us immediately if you spot a problem after ordering; we may try to help before production begins, but changes cannot be guaranteed.
By uploading artwork, photographs or text, the customer confirms that they own the material or have permission to reproduce it. Customers must not upload copyright-infringing, unlawful, defamatory, hateful, threatening, sexually exploitative or otherwise seriously offensive material. We may refuse or cancel production where supplied content appears to breach another person’s rights, the law, or reasonable print-provider content standards.
Where an order is refused because the customer supplied prohibited material or did not have the necessary rights, reimbursement is not due for work, payment-processing or production costs already incurred. Nothing in these terms removes statutory rights or prevents a refund where Bold Types is legally required to provide one.
7. Blank printed cards
A card ordered through the blank-inside route without customer personalisation can be cancelled under the distance-selling change-of-mind rules. You must tell us within 14 days after receipt, then return the authorised goods within the following 14 days. Contact us before posting so we can issue a return code. Change-of-mind return postage is paid by the customer. See the Delivery and Returns Policy for the full process.
8. Prices, payment and delivery
Prices are in pounds sterling. Payment is processed by PayPal. Catalogue-card orders currently include standard delivery to one eligible UK address unless checkout says otherwise. Customer-uploaded personalised cards are priced separately at £3.99 each and have a separate UK postage charge shown before payment. Direct-to-recipient delivery is available only where the basket contains one eligible catalogue card and no uploaded personalised card. Where a basket contains two or more printed cards, the cards are grouped into one self-send order and delivered together to the buyer with spare envelopes. Printed cards are displayed at their standard price and any eligible automatic multibuy saving is calculated in the basket. Any multibuy or bundle price shown at checkout forms part of the amount actually paid for each returnable item.
Customer-uploaded personalised cards
Cards created through Upload your own card are made from artwork supplied by the customer and are treated as a separate product from the Bold Types catalogue. They cost £3.99 each. UK postage is £1.10 for one uploaded card, £1.75 for two, £2.49 for three, then 50p for each additional uploaded card. Uploaded personalised cards do not qualify for catalogue-card multibuy prices, bundle offers, free catalogue-card postage or 10OFF.
Because these cards are made to the customer’s specifications, the normal change-of-mind cancellation right does not apply once production has begun. This does not affect statutory rights where goods are faulty, not as described or otherwise fail to meet legal requirements.
The source photograph is kept on the customer’s device for up to seven days for temporary editing. Print-ready artwork created for an uploaded-card basket is temporary and is automatically scheduled for deletion after seven days unless it is required for an accepted order.
Promotional codes and automatic offers
Multibuy delivery condition: the 2-card, 3-card and 4 cards for £9.99 prices, and any similar grouped-card promotion, apply only to qualifying Bold Types catalogue cards where all qualifying cards are supplied together in one order to one UK delivery address. The offer does not include separate postage to different recipients or addresses. A direct-to-recipient card is a separate single-card delivery service and is charged as its own order. If two or more catalogue cards are in the basket, checkout automatically uses self-send delivery to one UK address so the cards can be grouped and the eligible multibuy price applied. Recipient names added to individual card designs do not create separate delivery addresses.
The promotional code 10OFF provides 10% off the standard selling price of one eligible full-price catalogue greeting card in a single transaction. The maximum discount is therefore based on one printed card, regardless of how many products are included in the order. It does not apply to eCards, delivery upgrades, optional extras, gift products or other non-card items.
10OFF cannot be combined with another promotional code, automatic multibuy discount, bundle price or special offer, including the four catalogue cards for £9.99 promotion, which is available only for cards sent together to one UK address. Where an order qualifies for more than one promotion, Bold Types will apply the single promotion that gives the customer the greater saving. For example, a basket qualifying for four catalogue cards for £9.99 will receive that automatic price instead of an additional 10OFF reduction. Promotional discounts cannot be exchanged for cash or applied retrospectively.
Promotions may be amended or withdrawn for future orders. This does not affect an order already accepted at the promotional price. We may refuse or cancel a discount where there is evidence of misuse, fraud, technical error or an attempt to circumvent the promotional conditions.
9. Production and delivery partners
We use specialist white-label providers, including Prodigi where configured, to manufacture and dispatch orders. The details needed to print and deliver the order are transferred after payment. Bold Types remains your point of contact.
10. Faults, damage and non-delivery
Your statutory rights are not affected. Contact us promptly with the order number and photographs where useful if a card is faulty, damaged, incorrect, materially different from the approved order or does not arrive. An appropriate remedy may include replacement or refund.
11. Returns and return codes
Eligible change-of-mind returns for blank cards are tracked using a unique return code. Contact us before posting so we can create the return record and send the code and instructions. The code is an administrative matching tool and does not remove statutory rights.
12. Liability
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded, including statutory consumer rights. We are not responsible for unforeseeable losses or business losses arising from a consumer purchase.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. Consumers may bring proceedings in the courts applicable to their part of the United Kingdom.
